What are some cheap and good tailors in Chicago?
I know there are a bunch of tailors in downtown chicago but I want to know which are the best and inexpensive. I want to get a zipper replaced on a pair of jeans and get the legs hemmed. Does anyone know on average how much that costs? And what tailor(s) would you suggest?
Well by tailor I mean any place that does alterations, that includes cleaners. Sorry if I wasn't specific enough.

You can pay a tailor, but I've had the same work done at a local dry cleaner. Just pin the legs and take it in. They usually are way less than a cheap tailor.

Yes, it's possible as long as there is enough extra material (look at where it's sewn together in those spots. there is generally material left beyond where it has been sewn). I worked at a drycleaner/tailor place - that's how I know

Can tailors make a dress a size less for you?
I really love this velvet dress and I'm a size 2, but they're only size 4 and up because size 2 is out of stock. If I order it, can I bring it to tailors and could they make it into a size 2?
Question answered by

Can tailors alter bootcut jeans into skinnies?
I LOVE skinnies but I'm also really short. When I buy them in longer lengths and hem them they start looking like they're bootcut. Can tailors alter some jeans to make them tighter near the opening of the leg?

Sure, a good tailor can make them as you want them. Have you tried looking for jeans that are a "short" or looked in the petite section of a department store? If you can find a pair that fits you off the rack then it will be ALOT cheaper than paying a good tailor to rebuild a pair of jeans for you.
What's the name of that reading program that tailors to children's diffrent learning styles?
I think it's similar to Hooked on Phonics. It's like a dvd package that comes with books, and can be used on tv. It claims it works because it tailors to the 7 learning styles of children instead of just the main three (audio, visual, literary).
thanks, but it was like a cartoon. kinda like muzzy, but not for foreign languages.

Are tailors able to shorten sleeves, and how much would it cost?
I remember when I rented a tux for prom the tailor made some adjustments even for just renting...I bought a suit jacket the other day, and it fits really well (maybe take it in a few spots) but the main thing is the sleeve are a tad long...that is something tailors can easily remedy right? and if so, how much does something like that cost?

Question answered by jessica l
cost. is not something you can generalize with any tailoring.. well depending where you go. each place/tailor will have there own set price. do research of places in your area.
yes most tailors can shorten sleeves, but depending on how much work is to be done will determine if the tailor will tell you if its worth your money to do or not.
